As your vehicle ages, or you finish making payments, you might be wondering if it is possible to reduce your auto insurance costs by reducing or eliminating unnecessary coverages.
The answer is: it depends.
Could you afford to repair or replace your car?
We provide a selection of optional coverages for your own automobile. Payments cover direct and accidental loss of, or damage to, a described automobile and its
equipment. There is usually a deductible amount indicated for each coverage and this amount is either paid by you toward the cost of repairs or is deducted from
the loss settlement. Higher deductibles may reduce your premium. (feel free to edit this part to flow more smoothly)
On the other hand, if replacing your car is not(practical) for you, then optional insurance coverage could be your best bet.
What auto insurance coverage is optional?
On top of the auto insurance coverages in Ontario that are required by law you might consider the optional coverages to build on your mandatory coverage:
- Collision or upset coverage – This coverage pays for losses caused when an insured vehicle is involved in a collision with another object, including another vehicle, or rolls over.
- Specified perils coverage – This coverage protects against losses caused by situations that are unpredictable and unavoidable. Each insurer will have a detailed list, but coverage often includes situations such as fire, flood, theft or attempted theft, earthquakes, etc.
- Comprehensive coverage – This coverage pays for losses, other than those covered by collision or upset coverage, including perils listed under specified perils coverage, including falling or flying objects, missiles and vandalism.
- All perils coverage – This combines collision or upset and comprehensive coverages. In addition, it covers loss or damage caused if a person who lives in your home steals the vehicle your insurance policy covers.
