Our History

Roughley Insurance Brokers Ltd. Was founded September 8th 1945 by Harold G. Roughley and quickly established itself as a cherished member of the Durham Region community. Harold founded the company on the basic principles that:

• People want to do business with people they like and trust.
• Clients should have access to a higher standard of care and have someone who can advocate for them during claims.
• A client referral is the highest standard of achievement.
• Client experience is the most important aspect of insurance

Jim Roughley then grew the brokerage for over 50 years to where it is today, at more than 40 employees across Oshawa and Bowmanville. Jim’s philosophy mirrors that of Harold’s – of being the brokerage that cares. Through his expansion of markets and dedication to claims advocacy, the brokerage has consistently grown through referrals.

In October of 2023, Rob Roughley joined the brokerage after a 5-year career in commercial technical sales where we became a licensed professional engineer. Bringing his experience in the construction and engineering sectors, Rob is committed to the longevity of excellence in the brokerage by putting client needs first.
