What if your dog gets too excited by the sight of the mail-person and he bites them?

What if a visitor slips and falls down your rickety porch?

What if you are playing baseball and the ball you slammed accidentally hits a neighbour’s house?

The personal liability portion of your home insurance policy covers you against lawsuits for injury or property damage that you or your family members cause to other people.

You should know that if one of your family members trips and falls down your rickety porch, personal liability will not cover damages incurred. The incident has to involve a third-party that is not within your household.

It will be difficult to plan for everything that could go wrong in your daily life, but you likely know that accidents can happen. This is where the personal liability portion of your home insurance policy comes into play. The protection is there for you if someone in your household, including your pets, cause damage or injury to someone outside of your household. This coverage can help to cover costs incurred from being sued and/ or damages done.

Most home insurance policies come with a standard $1 million of personal liability insurance. It may seem like enough, but after legal fees and medical bills, we often recommend increasing this amount to $2 million.

Think of how useful an umbrella can be.
Your home insurance policy and your auto insurance policy do not often come with coverage for every possible scenario. Umbrella Coverage is there to protect you above and beyond the protection that your home insurance and auto insurance policies can provide.
