Auto insurance and accident benefits aren’t exactly the most exciting topic. It can also be pretty tricky to understand all of the terminology and choices available to you. However, it is very important for all drivers to understand these coverages and how they affect you.
Recently, accident benefit limits in Ontario were reduced. This means less coverage for you if you are injured as a result of an automobile accident.
Are you the primary caregiver for an elderly parent or relative? If you were injured in a car accident, who would care for them? Do you have someone who would be able to complete home maintenance such as mowing the lawn or cleaning the house?
Your Ontario auto policy will provide coverage for these types of things if you are catastrophically injured. An example of this type of injury would be paraplegia or loss of a limb. You could receive up to $250 per week to hire someone to care for your dependents and up to $100 for home maintenance. Coverage for child care expenses is not included, however it can be purchased.
We recommend increasing the standard $1 million in Accident Benefit coverage to $2 million. Click here to read about income replacement and the coverages that are available to you through your auto insurance.
